sbc in 4th gen f-body

Postby axe1993 on Sat Feb 09, 2013 2:29 pm

Is it possible to put in a carbureted SBC and keep your wipers? Don't start yacking about how its better to stay with the ls1. I work for a living and I am not spending hundreds a month on someone tuning my car...period. I can can build a 500 HP 400 sb a lot cheaper than a lsx motor. I am aware of cutting the cowl for room, that's why I'm asking the question. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can Carb the LS1. The 5.3 or 6.0L truck motors are fairly cheap if you don't have one (V6 car or damaged V8).
There are Edelbrock intakes and MSD ignition packages on ebay for $620 or so.
Kind of pricey but less work than cutting up the car.

Really? Carb will fit under cowl on a ls1? My camaro is a factory ls1 z28. I can sell my ls6 intake to cover a lot of the new intake cost.

I doubt it will clear without some serious cutting, go to ls1tech.com and look around. Should be everything you need to know.

I'm sure a new hood with scoop would be needed with a carb.

Looking on ls1tech forums under carbed ls's I saw this and others that are similar.

Yep should be easy. I've got a 455 Pontiac with a single plane intake in mine. Just took a notch out for the rear fuel bowl. The crapy part is the dist is hard to adjust. That being said I've now cut more of the cowl out and the center wiper arm for more room still have the driver side tho. But I ran it for a few years with both wipers.
