I think back half any tire, any power adder,anything goes as long as it has stock frame rails up frount. ADRL 10.5
Come on carl we need a back half class that was the hole idea from the start.

This class catches/covers most every non-chassis bracket car that wants to race Heads-up. Excellent idea and it works. The basic drag race car like the old days. Excellent! ! !

I have been talking with Carl about the Rules, and as far as a "Back Half" Class..

There are three basic classes that fit this scenario... Heavy Street, Pro Street, and Outlaw 10.5

on a Local Level.. two are dead and one is dieing... Heavy Street and Pro Street for Back Half cars have been gone for quite awhile (we did try Heavy Street at the first shootout we had Mokan I think 3 cars ran it if I remember correctly) Outlaw 10.5 has been struggling to have decent fields the past few years.

The cars that run in these classes got WAY out of hand for people that have "Bracket Cars" to jump over and run some heads stuff..

all three of classes have cars that are local and will easily run under 4.60's in the 1/8th...

Whats the deal with using Ozarks rules ? Wheres the creativity there ? Doesn't the vamp series have a radial class ? And they are running a race here , Right ? Ozarks rules need updated and they may pretty soon.

Jeff,I hear what you are saying,what we really wanted was a Outlaw Class -chassis cars only (such as Pro-Mod-etc.)And a Pro-Street class(for back half cars(such as 10.5 Outlaw ladder bar and 4-link cars.)These cars run 4.70 to 5.30 range.That why a few Super-pro and N/E cars could run with them.Pro-Street (mufflers-headlights-tailights)I think it would work,like to see what it brings?Terry

From a spectator point of view, Full Chassis class no other rules, Back half class (any tire size no other rules), and drag radial. What fun is it to see three cars in a class? I don't know of many super pro cars or no/e cars with their current combos that can be competitive in the chassis class or backhalf class. They might crossover, but being competitive is a different story. There are a few that come to mind that could step up though. Again I'm a spectator and a part time bracket racer. The only class that might interest me in competing would be drag radial. But, it just seems like there are too many classes and not enough cars at some of these monthly programs. And keeping it simple might appeal to the casual fans who want to see fast doorslammers, wheel stands, and wild racing.

The rules we wanted was a Outlaw/Pro-mod Class-Chassis cars only(Blowers-nitrious-turbos-etc.)run what you brung.And a Pro-Street Class(Back-Half cars only)Blowers-nitrious-Turbos-etc.run what you brung.Guys that run 10.5 Outlaw could run this class also.This is simple as it gets!

Terry, I understand keeping it simple, but you can only keep simple in Check by paying very little money. And even then sometimes there will be someone who will rain on your party just because they want to win something and money is no matter to them or you have someone who just needs to test and will come to make their test session free.

I have a Customer who can run 4.40's right now with a Backhalf car on 10.5W's @ 3000 lbs, the car can take 34.5's and get under 2700 lbs.

This is what is wrong with unlimited power adder classes... the cars have just gotten to fast... well some of them..

You can usually draw a few cars a few times.. but once racers see they are just donating money to the cause, they will usually stop or back up a class, with the back half that ran "Pro Street" when it got to fast, they put on small tires and went Super Street or Outlaw 10.5 type of class racing, well now that those quicker cars around here run 4.50 or 6.80's (or Faster) there is no where for the guys who cars dont compete to step back anymore... And the classes die..

Pro Mod or unlimited Door Slammer works because it is the top of the food chain, any of these classes cost almost as much to run as ProMod.. So there will be guys who will move up to those classes and there seems to be enough people who will replace the racers who are dropping out, it is just not so with the other back half classes,

Simple would be great if it would still work, the days where you had Outlaw Big Tire and Outlaw small tire we fun and there were cars who showed up to run them... but it just doesnt work like that anymore sadly to say.

Years ago Super Stock and Drag Illustrated magazine came up with a cool new heads up class for the low Dollar Racer.
Econo Mod... very few rules, Tire Size max 11 inches I believe, there had to be a Plate under the carb with 4 certain sized holes, and there was a 2.5 inch outlet size restrictor on the header collector... they had cars and they ran mid to low 10's and it was a pretty good deal, until a guy showed up with an ex Comp Eliminator motor that was in the small 300 inches and promptly ran low 9's.. So much for the Econo part of the rules and the class did not even make it to its first Birthday..

The point of this is, figure out which classes have cars already supporting a certain type of rules, or figure out rules for cars that their combinations have no class to run in..

When Carl and I worked on the rules for MAKO, it was aimed at all the Heavy older cars who did not fit into the rules and classes that favored the light weight late model Mustangs.

Big Tire Backhalf classes went away for lack of cars, Outlaw 10.5 at Tulsa is not going to be scheduled this year for lack of cars, so unless someone other than the track gets them organized and back out racing it is on its way out.

There are alot of cars running ProMod.. there are alot cars running True 10.5 type of classes, there are alot of cars running Drag Radial... Right now that is where you can draw for an extended period of time..

One purpose of this Sunday’s meeting is to see what the guys actually plan to run.

If they are interested in the program, it seems logical they will want to be there and we can take a head count.

Jeff, and some other folks, have helped me quite a bit with technical info, ultimately I will make the decision.

I think it is wise to keep the number of classes to 3 or 4. They more we split the pie, the less of everything we have.

I am working on the meeting location. Made some calls today, waiting on the proverbial call back. Will post as soon as I know. Most likely will be in Joplin.

We run full chassis with whatever class Terry runs. Side note: There were MANY times we could/should have won in Big Tire Outlaw (some 4.30 cars) but for various reasons, we didn't. We qualified faster several times, than the car that ended up winning which was usually in the vicinity of 4.80. There were A LOT of winnings by a 4.80 car than there were by the 4.40 cars or so.

It'll be fun whatever happens.

AT SALLISAW: We had LOTS of Outlaw cars until the payouts dropped to $500 to WIN. Joe Mumma and I promoted a $3,000 to win, $1500 2nd and so forth down to $50 for 8th place. We had EIGHTEEN sub 5-second cars; two Holzman's, Jim Yate's Grand Am running 4.60's, we ran 4.90's. The winning car ran a 4.80 something.
It was one of the best times I EVER had drag racing (legally) and would do it again in a second.

Later on, what most affected it was going there with a certain $1000.oo or more advertised amount to win....winning...and then getting handed $300 after all the non-Outlaw Big Tire cars bumped to our division because there were 15 of them and 5 of us. Play the odds.

We still race there but we realize that even if we win, we would still loose $200+

Relatively decent, honest pay-outs will do wonders for a class. We sold advertising, advertised the races and offered lots of crazy drag racing for the fans to see.

This will work as long as it offers folks VALUE. Works for the Casino.

I understand why Ozark has a 11.00 OR LARGER slick rule:
Gee, I lost first round in 10.5 where there are 16 cars, so I'll bump over to Big Tire where there are only 7 cars and I'll take the #8 spot by default no matter what. I might luck out and the other car breaks or whatever, and I just got 4th or so. Hmm, forget the drag car, I'll just enter my tow rig since there are only 7 Outlaw cars and if my opponent breaks, goes red, etc...

Wait till you are the Outlaw car and this happens to you. You spend a chunk to race a nice car and a 11 second car bumps over from a slower class. Whats better is when you don't even realize the guy has done it until you break something, and he THEN decides to bump over. Me and another guy decided to split the pot and did some test-n-tune. We didn't even know this other guy was in our division because he obviously wasn't with an 11 second car. When he saw we were broke, he bumped over and took 2nd for $500 by default.

If you are in Chassis, Outlaw 10.5 or whatever, then that's what you are in when you come in the gate. I am real sure Carl paid a bracket car $250 one time, that saw there were only 7 Pro/Mod cars and so he bumped over, took 8th and got $250 for making ONE 9 second pass.

Just food for thought on the rules.

Ya know, I don't race in these shoot out classes because I'm not fast enough. However, I am interested in them doing well for the sake of MoKan & the people who race there on a regular basis. But the racing hasn't even started yet & there is already bickering over the rules. I hope Carl & others who make the rules for the shoot out classes, put the rules in place & people either abide by them or go home. You can tell me to mind my own business since I don't race the shoot out class, but I have an interest in what goes on at MoKan because I am there darn near everytime the gate is open.
