77 dodge 4x4 pickup
-1973 440 out of a motorhome with 75k miles on it.
-Rebuilt Orielys distributor, electronic ignition, alternator & regulator, plugs, wires, coil, cap, and rotor.
-The motor has an edelbrock performer intake on it and headers but basically stock beyond that.
-I've got a 750 manual choke Edelbrock carb on it with a K&N filter and filter lid. The carb was rebuilt 2 weeks ago.
My problem is it starts right up and runs fine until you hit approx. 2,000rpm and the acts like its hitting a rev limiter both in gear and in park. I have no idea whats wrong with it and have heard several different opinions on whats wrong so I figured I'd see what some of you hardcore guys think. I've noticed that the carb makes a really loud sucking noise while idling, I figured it would make some noise but its loud enough it can be heard from 30' away with the hood shut and open headers, not sure if thats an edelbrock thing or what. I've had several people tell me to take that carb off and put a Holley on it but I dont want to fork out $300 for something that I dont know will fix it. I've also been told that it might have bent pushrods or bad valve seats but I figured it would backfire or at least run rough at idle if it had something like that going on. Anyways any input would be appreciated, I'm just at my wits end and am about to just take it to someone and tell them to send me the bill. I hope I gave enough details to the situation.
