my 84 mustang hatch with a 93 302 engine thats carburated, i ran it last night in topeka and ran horrible I have a 750 hp dp holley and high rise intake with bunch of goodies. and it spit and sputtered all down the track and ended up with a 14.30 time.. horrible for this car. it runs very rough on take off like is missing till i get into the RPM's but then it pops and crackles at around 4000RPM need this thing so i can drive it on the street if need be but mostly for drag. if you have any good tips on either where to take it to get corrected or if you know something i dont about older 302's please text or call me. thanks a bunch

Get some jet extensions, a notched float, and a power valve plug, start there with a little jet adjustment, the ole Ford should run as SLOW, or even SLOWER than ever!! :P :-o :nice:

Them ole fords are horrible arent they. But wait dont you pull your chevy with a f350? Oh and drive a ford daily. Trash. Dont want none of that obama motors junk gm. Lol.

Slow Pro 5.0? Only after the motor changes to scrap metal.
Fast don't last, unless it is a Jet.
What kind of motor does it take, for a 7sec door car to get past 4sec Rail?
When great Rt changes to .03, the tires must be slipping a third of a turn in the stage beams. Those that caught it and adjusted the box............
.992 sixty ft???? Could be a MoKan best for bracket car, or any car?

The problem could be carb, or ign. If float level is correct, then check for a bad power valve. It will show leaking at the boosters at idle.
With a reluctor type pickup in the dist, one misfire can cause the rpm to vary, and lead to other cylinders to miss.
With a timing light, do all cylinders have a steady flash?
If the motor does not run right, the vacuum can be low, and cause the power valve to be open. You sometimes have to put in a high number one, sort things out, and then put the correct one back in.
Storage can cause the plugs to glaze, and need to be cleaned, or replaced.
Did packrats damage the wires? Check for correct voltage at the + side of the coil.
Moisture in the dist cap, can cause misfire. Spray with WD40.

I agree that it's ignition and fuel. I'd check the timing at idle and full advance. The popping @ 4000 is most likely the motor being lean. Good luck!

Well I installed 3 different carburators and they all did the same thing at low rpms running real rough. I also went through my distributor and it checked out ok. The only thing I can think of would or could be off is the timing. What is normal timing for a stock 93 mustang gt 302.?

Normal? well most stock apps. are around 12 - 14 deg. before tdc. I'd start there and see how it runs. you may also have a vacuum leak.

I just now got it fixed. Finally....

Had a hose that had dry rott.
Switched a vacume hose on the carb plate for a plug.

Runs great now I can drive it to the track now.. maybe.
