Postby greenmachine on Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:52 pm

heres my problem.
i have a stock 351w in my 49 ford sedan.
it idles high with the pcv hooked up.
idles around 1000 with the idle shut off.
unhook pcv and it idles much better.

it has done this on 3 600 holleys

any ideas would be great

Is the pcv valve broken or stuck wide open? Shouldn't make that much difference.......

Does your distributor have a vacume advance ? Could have a vacume source to the distributor tied in with the pcv's vacume source? Just throwin stuff out there.

yes it does.
advance is hooked to front port on carb
pcv is hooked to the big port on the side

Crazy idea but if u just unhook one pcv and leave the other hooked up does it idle better. I personally was told to hook my pcv to a vacuum port straight to the intake and have had no issues. Just an idea. Maybe try that and see what it does. Maybe having two hooked up is causing the carb to get too much of a vacuum signal or draw? Hope that is of some help. If not, disregard this post! Lol

Use only one pcv valve, put a breather on the other side.....Two pcv valves would be too much of a vacuum leak...

Sounds like your distributor is hooked up to the proper port. What the fellas have posted above I think have nailed down ur problem. I did'nt think it clear through, but 2 pcv's can't operate properly on that amount of vacume produced, thus only creating the formentioned vacume leak. Be gentle while kicking me to the curb.
