Does anyone know wha the best book is on the market to give step by step directions and details on how to rebuid a turbo 400 trans? I plan to try the rebuild myself but have never done it. Thanks Jarratt
Depending on what you need, a good local parts house should be able to supply what you need. However, I use A & Reds out of Wichita, Ks [1-800-835-1007] for hard to get, special stuff, or just a plain rebuild kit. Also they are very helpfull folks with info. Fast shipping, decent prices.
Ok. Thanks for the info. I was told a 400 is the easiest and I think all it needs is clutches and seals. Its slipping but don't want to pay a grand for a tranny. Its just an old farm truck and will never see the highway. Dont have a title but its in too good shape to scrap or part out. Its an 88 Chevy 3500 with the 350/auto and has NO rust at all. Has a flatbed. Should make good farm truck.
A Mopar 904 is a lightweight trans, and the first thing that goes wrong, is they slip going into high. With a $15 shift kit, they are good for another 10k miles. How long do you want it to last? I have bought $25 core trans, from salvage yards, that were in perfect shape.
