Junior dragster engine.

Post by 01z28auto »

Are the ihra rules the engine rules for the juniors as in flat head engines only or would an ohv engine like one of the predators be allowed? Thinking of getting my son started but have to figure out what I can afford to maintain for him. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the IHRA rule book, they have all the approved engines there. We might also consider an engine for local competition. Do you have and engine in mind and what class, Mod or Comp ?

The engine would start out as the predator 212cc or 420cc engines from harbor freight. My son turned 10 in September so if I read the rules correctly he’ll be in comp. Most of what I read in the rule book were flatheads which was why I wanted to clarify. I’d want safety items like a billet flywheel and such and the harbor freight engines seem to be a fairly cost effective option to start with and have room to grow. Thanks for your time Carl, I appreciate it.

I'd be ok with the 212 cc, We've had racers use them before.
