Sportsman

Post by Novarat »

My wife was watching Sportman on Labor Day weekend, and posed a question I am not sure how to answer. Maybe other racers can clarify.

If you have a car in sportsman -11.00 class, How can someone win with a faster then 11.00 time, even if the opposition breaks out or cant run their number, yet still remains above the 11.00 restriction.

you can lift at a certain point to run 11.0 or slower, or you can dial 11.0, cut a good light and hang a wheel on the other car, hope your light was better for a cushion at the stripe. Several ways to slow down your dial, just a couple. Hope that helps! Hoggie :nice:

I wish that would be helpful but not the case! If you look at the 2nd round of sportsman on labor day Sunday first pair and tell me how a car wins that way is what I am trying to explain. My competition put a light on me and we both broke out! But I ran 11.05 to his 10.97!!! Regardless of light, finish margin,or amount of breakout 11.00 is the cutoff??? To me unless its a double breakout under 11.00 the 10.97 should lose because its under the cutoff! If you are index racing which is different. For instance a 7.90 index and one car runs 7.899 and the other car runs 7.92 who wins regardless of who gets there first! Thank you very much for the input but still doesn't answer my question.

cant dial any faster than 11.00, but doesnt say you both cant run under the dial. Its a race at that point, whoever breaks out the least. 8) 8)

That all sounds good if both cars run under 11.00 in the race but thats not the case! One car did run under 11.00 which is the cut off!!! The other car does not! What is the purpose of 11.00 if you can break that rule and still get the win light? :-o

There is no rule saying you can't run under the 11.00 minimum dial. The 11.00 cutoff I believe was to keep the really fast cars out, and i'd imagine keep insurance cost down.

If you have a 12.50 car that goes -.006 red, and the 11.02 car in the other lane runs 10.987 on his bye run who do you think should win?

Now were getting closer to understanding if its insurance purposes? Thats a totally different scenario using a red light! We all know a red light is an instant loss regardless of your dial! But Ive always been under the impression that 11.00 was the cutoff so thank you guys for the clarification! :nice:

I believe I can explain what you’re asking. Let’s assume that your car will run 11.00 but you dial 11.10. The other car is dialed 11.00. You both cut an .01 light. You run 11.00 on your 11.10 dial. The only way the other car can win is to run faster than 11.00. Since you still ran 11.00 but were .10 under your dial, the other car would be able to run 10.91 and win. As long as the other car didn’t go faster than the .10 you were under your dial.
